Spam comments on site I started today

Hi
I installed wordpress and trying to understand how it works. I recieved around seven comments(waiting for approval) in 5 minutes. While I was testing the site functionality publishing the page and posts.
I heard about askimet plugin, in forums. I checked it. It was already installed on my wordpress site. Can someone please help me out?
