    This is just for my curiousity ..

    I have recently been getting “trackback” email notices that appears to be a comment on my BIO page .. Under the discussion field, when I edit the page, I had un-ticked the check box for “Enable Comments” ..

    Yet I have been getting these type of email messages:

    ========================
    New trackback on your post #15 “BIO”
    Website: Sony Digital camcorders (IP: 205.234.145.222 , server.eltahost.com)
    URI : https://groups.yahoo.com/group/sonydv/message/1/
    Excerpt:
    Sony mini DV digital camcorders

    Thank you for great information shared online. I found your entry interesting so I have added a Trackback to it on my weblog ??

    You can see all trackbacks on this post here:

    To delete this comment, visit: https://www.hart-empire.com/wp-admin/post.php?action=confirmdeletecomment&p=15&comment=25
    ==================================

    Of course, all the comments are pretty much identical and user website, IP, etc changes .. and I have been deleting the comment as I consider it to be spam.

    Any thoughts? Anybody else getting these type of comments directed to worpdress pages that have no comments enabled? What would you recommend – just keep deleting this on an individual basis as I get them? or, is there something I can do?

  • Best thing to do is remove the code from page.php

    If you are using a ‘page.php’ template for your pages, remove the div that contains the comments area – typically the feedback div, anything that calls the comment_template too.

    If you are not using page.php, then you need to.
    Download index.php from your theme folder
    Open it and remove the above
    Save it as ‘page.php’
    Upload to theme folder.

    Great Tip .. thanks Podz ..

    I’m seeing a pattern here .. besides adjusting my ‘page.php’ template, I will copy my entries and forward to their host too ..

    URI & WEBSITE NAMES REMOVED (see two posts down)

    Fat chance that will help!

    And BTW you are accomplishing something they desire when they trackback your blog.

    You just added to their “Google Juice” by posting the links here.

    Thanks Marc for pointing that out – I was able to edit the above in time and I just deleted the website name and the website URI … I was unable to do that on my original post though … // and I did send an email to that host server .. their homepage is in Russian though .. D’oh.

    Check Tom Raftery’s solution to trackback spam. Works great!

    In the three examples you posted, there is just one server you need to block.
