• Hi,

well, after the update I get a lot of spam, more than 4000 emails/day on each form … I also understand that for reCaptcha version 3 it is good to use, it will cost you months and no one wants to be spammed indefinitely, no really? It did not cost anything for you to support the reCaptcha version 2 option, while version 3 is good for use. No one wants to be installing additional and unnecessary plugins to work with your pluguin Contact Form 7 ..

    THOUGHT:

Firstly I understand that it is a free plugin and you have the right to change it at your discretion, but you have left your users that speak well of the plugin without option with the last update and those same users can also say that they do not like it any more, Think about your faithful users … BUT THIS IS NOT IMPORTANT FOR YOU, IS NOT IT?

    Thank You,

    Pedro

  • After upgrading to the latest version of Contact Form 7 and using Re-captcha V3, I am doing nothing else but deleting spam emails ending into my mailbox without passing through any captcha check, as in the database the captcha field seems to be completely blank. Bring Version 2 back as it was perfectly working!

In a while replacing the form will be the only option if this is going to save me time from going through and deleting all these spam emails.

    Thanks,
    Natasa

This brings up an interesting question. At what point does a plugin developer acknowledge any degree of responsibility to the user community? Or does @takayukister (Takayuki Miyoshi) ever have to. I am struggling to understand the lack of response on this issue.

We work with many development teams and individual developers, many are already going through the expense of replacing the plugin entirely. This is a black eye for WordPress, and for the developer.

I also get tons of spam which I never had before. Recaptcha V3 just does not work properly. I wasn’t even having a single spam mail with the good ol’ simple captcha without any compex Google stuff. Please, please just make that working again… Thanks for your effort!

It *is* an interesting question. The whole thing is very surprising to me. As with anything software related, particularly with free software, legally the author can do anything he wants to his program. If it causes problems he can fix it or do nothing, totally his choice.

Fortunately for me I have only a single low-traffic site with a simple contact form so it was very easy to fix, I just replaced Contact Form 7 with Wpforms Lite which gives me a choice of recaptcha V2 or V3. End of problem. I feel for the folks trying to maintain hundreds of sites with more complex forms.

I do free things for people too and I listen to my “customers.” I really want them to like the things I do and if I had a situation like this I’d at least enter the conversation and see what I could do to help. However this is not an obligation. Obviously the author views this differently than I do.

For those that really need to continue using Contact Form 7 I hope the situation gets resolved soon but I no longer trust the plugin or its author, sorry…

    Hi

As I said earlier that reCaptcha V3 is not good for work today, this will be good, perhaps, in the distant future … And we faithful users do not want to leave a great plugin forgotten because of this, but that does not happen, we need to know of the developer what will be done in the future of the plugin, since from there we will be able to choose or not other options existing in the market.

I wanted to make it clear that this is not a charge, we would just like to know the future of the plugin …

In my case it is important to know what developers think, I have several clients that use their plugin and depending on the direction that the plugin developers will take, unfortunately I will have to use other options if the plugin makes “exclusive” decisions.

    Thank you.

    Pedro.

    capcha v 3 = spam ///// What do?

We work with many development teams and individual developers, many are already going through the expense of replacing the plugin entirely. This is a black eye for WordPress, and for the developer.

What is happening in this moment is the unfortunate scenario as to why I personally prefer paid commercial plugins than free. The author is intentionally not responding to this issue (actively responding to other issues). When he did respond early on, he praised reCAPTCHA v3 (go through his reply history).

And then we, the users, feel rather trapped. We can’t really be that critical here.. this has been an amazing free plugin. “What right do we have to complain”.

Paying for mission critical functionality is pretty important (contact forms, security, content/field architecture, etc.).

I was getting lots of SPAM after updating to CF7 5.1.0 / reCaptcha v3. Now I just updated to CF7 5.1.1 and cannot get an email sent from my form because it thinks they are all SPAM ??

The CF7 plugin is still great and @takayukister should be commended for his efforts to continue to support it. I think the issue is with reCaptcha.

It would be nice to have the option in CF& to choose reCaptcha v2 or v3 and switch between them for when issues like this arise.

Ok, the spam stopped… BUT, with the new update 5.1.1 the form does not send the emails… ??

In other words, this new update did not work, it just created a worse problem, I do not get messages from clients. ?? ?? ??

    Nobody deserve!

    I followed this guide:
    https://articles.runtings.co.uk/2018/12/how-to-fix-contact-form-7-v501.html
and it works. Spam has stopped, and the form can be used so send emails. It also only shows the badge on the form, not on other pages.

I have reverted to CF7 Version 5.0.5 for now with recaptcha v2 and all works.

@pedrorafael, we are not having an issue sending emails with the new version. We can trigger the SPAM blocking by autofilling several fields in the form. I beleive that is desirable. Please test your form by manually typing in the field values and possibly using a different email address.

I suspect you are experiencing the improved SPAM blocking from V3.

Also, please make sure the script is loading on ALL pages. Just having the visitor hit the page with the form and not do anything else is probably a ngeative ranking factor. I am curious to see how you progress with this.

The only solution is for someone or preferably a group to fork the plugin and develop a new plugin. Unless that is done the author has the means to act as a dictator.

Open source gives us ability to control the software but only if we do it.

    @locascioa,

does not work simply, no email is fired at all in version 5.1.1. I received no customer contact today and no spam, but I received millions of customer calls complaining that I did not respond to email budgets. And as for reCaptcha V3, in my view it’s not ready for the market, maybe in the distant future and more, no one will leave reCaptcha enabled on the whole site, it will only leave reCaptcha V3 in the forms … I reverted to version 5.0.5, the version it renders, and I have again received the contacts from my clients and I am already responding to my budgets again.

In summary, here for me, versions 5.1 and 5.1.1 have to be reviewed. Version 5.1 receives a lot of spam and version 5.1.1 does not send any email.
