SPAM
-
My site was recently hacked and the infestation has been cleared out.
At the same time, I began receiving loads more spam than usual.
My host company refuse to take any action as they tell me that spam is part and parcel of having a website.
I don’t accept this. There is no reason not to be doing everything possible to prevent the spam getting to the server in the first place.
In wordpress, I copy every single IP address and put it in the discussion comment blacklist section. But I’m still seeing some of those IP addresses getting through. Why ?
And of course, it does nothing to stop new ones getting through.
I use Defensio as a plugin, and they refuse to do anything more as,to be fair, their plugin captures 98% of the spam. But I have to check all of the hundreds of spam messages as some valid comments do get through still. Plus I have to copy all the IP addresses.
All of this is taking time.
Does anyone know if this spam increase is likely to be linked to the hack attack or not ?
Do others just put up with all this spam ?
I don’t accept that if you have a popular site then you have to be inundated with vile spam – some of it is really unpleasant. But I do not know what else to do. Everyone has their favourite plugins – and from experience I’d say they all seem to work to a point.
What else can be done ?
Thank you.
