We understand that a hybrid plugin/cloud solution is not what all people want. We’re very up-front about this in the tutorial, and other documentation we provide. The Connect Daily plugin does create a calendar account on the Connect Daily cloud calendar server. It’s not actually a 3rd party server though, it is our server. For people who don’t want a solution that involves a cloud back-end, we make it very easy to cancel the back-end account. The signup Email comes with a link that allow cancellation.
Benefits to using the Connect Daily cloud solution:

    • Using a cloud back-end for the plugin allows us to provide very rich functionality that would not be possible otherwise. As an example, Connect Daily supports Email and Text message event reminders. It wouldn’t be possible to have this feature in a pure WordPress environment.
    • Our cloud back-end is also highly optimized for performance. Many customers have 10’s of thousands of events while some customers have over 500,000 events.
    • The cloud back-end allows us to add features to the calendar system without impacting your WordPress site’s performance. This is because the plugin acts as the display front-end for the calendar. The processing of events, and other features are performed in the cloud back-end. This makes sure that Connect Daily won’t be hurting your site’s ranking because of performance issues.

Connect Daily is a robust calendar and scheduling solution that offers great functionality. Don’t miss out on using a great product just because some functions don’t reside on the same server as your WordPress site. We have been delivering Connect Daily as a cloud solution for over 15 years. Many of our customers have been with us since the beginning and trust us to deliver on their needs. You might be passing up on just the solution you need.

avoid. auto-creates an account on a third-party site.

Hi @sbgdigi or @gsexton Can you please expand on that? What account is create and with what info automatically?

    Hi @jdembowski,

The plugin does not actually create a cloud calendar account “automatically”. On activation, the user is directed to a settings page. See this URL for a screen shot:

    https://www.mhsoftware.com/~gsexton/SetupForm.png

The setup screen has three fields, the organization name, the site url, and the email address. All of those can be edited. The Email address field is optional. The instructions for the Email address state:

The Email Address is used to send system messages, along with tips on using Connect Daily. If you don’t supply an Email address, you won’t be able to reset the password on your cloud calendar.

So this value is really optional. Nothing is actually done until the user clicks on the “Create Calendar” button. In essence our plugin is like the many calendar plugins that interface with Google’s calendar. The difference is that we supply both the plugin and the backend. To try to simplify installation as much as possible, we integrate the provisioning of the cloud back-end into the settings screen.

As the screenshot shows in the circled area, we do let the user know that the plugin is interfacing to a cloud calendar. We also explicitly mention this in the tutorial.
