Hi, traffic source/medium is being overriten by referral/paypal.com when a purchase occurs, as the user leaves the page for completing payment and is redirected back to /order-received. I used to fix this through referrals exclusion list on Universal Analytics but apparently in Google Analytics 4, this is managed through Google Tag Manager. Any workaround, or way to exclude referrals and self-referral traffic via the plugin so the real source/medium doesn’t get overriden. Thank you in advance

Hi @miguelbp87. There isn’t a workaround available in the plugin. You’ll need to do this in Google Tag Manager as you’ve found out. I found this article explaining some of the process. Although it’s not in English, perhaps translating it could be helpful to you.

Thanks @drwpcom I had a look at this solution some days ago but the tag needs to be implemented via the GA4 tag in tag manager. Correct me if I am wrong but this means that I can’t use your plugin, right? As I would need to implement duplicated GA tags (via plugin and tag manager) firing on the same site. If that’s the case, will I have to code all of your plugin functionalities via tag manger? i.e. telling GA whats the cart page, where to find the purchase amount etc? I know that’s managed via the datalayer and custom events, but seems extremely complicated and custom work. I couldn’t find any info about this which makes me think everyone is using your plugin. I think I may be am missing something as without payment gateways, ecommerce wouldn’t even exist. It seems an extremely complicated workaround for a core feature of woocommerce, the ultimate goal of GA in ecommerce is tracking purchases by traffic source (to calculate the ROI of the different campaigns). Again, I am sure I am missing something as everyone would be having trouble with this and I couldn’t find anything online. Thank you for your help.
