    Hi there,

I’m trying to figure out how to properly set up the tax and shipping rates for my store. The company is based in Northern Ireland and we will be shipping out to Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland as well.

The shipping rates change based on each location. I’ve managed to get the ROI one to work as intended, but Great Britain and Northern Ireland have proven tough to figure out. I need to add a shipping fee of £8 for Northern Ireland and £20 for Great Britain. I tried to have this determined by Post Code area, but it hasn’t worked.

In addition, I need to sort out the tax. VAT should not be applied to ROI if they provide an IE VAT number. How could I handle this?

Please let me know if there’s any more information I can provide to make this easier.

The page linked is for the product. The issue I’m having is on the checkout page.

    Thanks
    Henry

  • Hi Henry,

Thank you for contacting WooCommerce Plugin Support. I understand that this can be a complex and challenging task, especially when you have different regions and rules to consider. Based on the situation, I have a few suggestions and questions that might help resolve the issue.

For the shipping rates, I recommend using the WooCommerce Shipping Zones feature, which allows you to create different zones based on countries, states, or zip codes, and assign different shipping methods and rates to each zone. You can find more details on how to set up shipping zones in this documentation.

To add a shipping fee of £8 for Northern Ireland and £20 for Great Britain, you can create two separate shipping zones, one for Northern Ireland and one for Great Britain, and add a flat rate shipping method to each zone with the respective fee. You can use the zip code field to limit the zones to specific postcodes if needed. You can also use wildcards to match multiple postcodes that share the same beginning. For example, BT would match all postcodes in Northern Ireland that start with BT.

For the tax settings, I suggest using the WooCommerce Tax feature, which allows you to configure the tax options and rates for your store. You can find more details on how to set up taxes in this documentation.

To exclude VAT for ROI customers who provide an IE VAT number, you can use the WooCommerce EU VAT Number plugin, which is available on the Woo.com Marketplace. This plugin allows you to validate and store EU VAT numbers on checkout, and automatically remove VAT for eligible customers. You can find more details on how to use this plugin in this documentation: WooCommerce EU VAT Number.

I hope these suggestions and resources are helpful to you. Please let us know if you have any questions or need further assistance.
