• Hi Josie

    Quick question or help

I look after two clubs entries and posting images to their web site. Is there a way to do the sort in entry forms so that I can sort by type and then category

One clubs uses prints and we request they send an image up to display during the clinic and on the web site and we have 4 categories

So one site a sort by type (prt/dig) and then by category. see below re random author

On the other club site they only do digital but would like the sort to be by category but then random of the author

do you know of a program that will change the order as above before sending to the gallery media area?

It does upload images and reports automatically.

I really do not want to change software EW is the best one so far, I have tried and used others that were lacking and also had a yearly subscription and no judging module.

Josie I know it would be a coding change but why can’t we sort the file before we upload for the adding the extra info and have EW sort the images the same as the spreadsheet.

Did you try sorting the images on the listing page (click the header of the column ) right before you do the attaching? That ought to sort by a single column, although I don’t think it will deal with a secondary sort.

Yes that s what I do now but would be nice for a secondary sort and even a third the clubs I do have prints and categories but when the gallery is created they are still lump together by the same author so could have 5 nature images by the same author in a row. I guess it would be difficult to change the order as in the spread sheet that I upload with the added scores and judges comments?

Maybe add it to future updates of EW

OK, I’ll put it on my list of things to look into.

Another thought: If you were willing to accept a prefix (either the concatenated type and category or just a number reflecting that) on your title or caption, you could sort on that in the existing setup. ( You would need to add it to the “Extra Data displayed in the spreadsheet” in order to see it in the list page. )

I will look into that for next month I already setup the gallery. But I did notice with wordpress gallery I had to sort high(P) to low(A) to get it in the gallery low (assignment) to hi (pictorial If I did a sort in category assignment first it would be last in the gallery page … I guess wordpress gallery is not setup for sorted images. I only look after EW on these web sites they both have their own webmaster so I am limited as to what I can and cannot do re the galleries.

One more thing I setup the whole year for the clubs clinics in the fall, I do set the end date and time but would be nice if you added a start date and time. I have been sent email stating the new clinic should be going as I foregot to activate them. Just food for thought.

It turned out that modifying the javascript to do a secondary sort was not workable.

What I did for 1.3.10 was to allow you to add an additional “tag” to the image along with title, caption, etc, and to display this tag in a spreadsheet column. Then you can sort on it in the item-list view before attaching to the page.

I’ve added “start date/time” to my list of things to think about.

But I’m afraid I’m really going to have to declare a moratorium on new features for at least the next few months — far too much stuff is piling up in my to-do list.
