You can set the sort order of a gallery with NextGEN Gallery options via WordPress admin.

WordPress admin > Gallery > Options > Gallery (on that page you will have ‘Sort options’)

Mind that there is a problem with sorting of the images in current version, it does not work properly:

You can fix it by installing the latest NextGEN Gallery beta version as mentioned here:

thanks, thats what I’ve done as a temporary measure, but it only works if I always want to use the images in the same order. If I want to use the same gallery sorted differently in different places its no help.

OK i already thought that that was what you were looking for. I can not help you there. Not familiar with a way to sort galleries different on a separate base other then the default sorting set for all in options.

not to worry, thanks for trying to help! I’ve worked round the problems by creating a second gallery sorted the way I want with duplicate content! Photocrati don’t seem interested in supporting nextgen until they’ve worked out a separate paid support scheme, and don’t seem interested in providing comprehensive documentation.

Photocrati isn’t providing support for the plugin because with over 6 million free users it doesn’t make sense. A premium version is under development (details and roadmap …) which will include support from us.

Good thinking! Just create a new gallery and then add the same images once more but named in a way to achieve the wished for alternate sorting.

I stopped drinking coffee… perhaps i should start doing that again ??
