sort by specific date (not post date)

    For this site: https://www.photodeadlines.com I’d like to sort posts by the specified deadline dates (not post dates). Anyone know of a preferably simple way to do this?

    Also, this is less of a priority, but it would be nice to have the posts somehow indicate when the deadline is approaching–like when the deadline is 1 week away, a line of text or icon will appear.
