Sort bookmarks by first letter

I want to organize my bookmarks into columns based on their first character. For example all the links that start with ‘A’ in the first column ‘B’ in the next, etc. If none of the links start with a specific character move on to the next one. How should I be going about doing this?

I’d prefer not to create a bookmark category for every letter and do it that way. Is there not some way to check the first letter of a string and sort it that way?
