• Hi,

In the past week or so the publications lists via shortcodes are for the most part broken. They are showing “Sorry, no publications matched your criteria.” where we have the shortcode pasted, plus any new shortcodes created or pasted display this in test pages.

Bizarrely however, on one other page we have a teachPress shortcode added, it’s still displaying the publications but it squashing the entire list from a full width to about a quarter of the width. Adding new shortcodes to this page will also not display the lists, which again is pretty odd.

One final thing, when we navigate to the teachPress admin page on our site, the list shows a total number for the publications, but nothing actually appears as a list. As well, the using any of the UI other than ‘Add new publication’, triggers a block for the page with the message: “

    Sorry, you have been blocked

You are unable to access [examplesite.com]

The latter is a Cloudflare block so of course there could be something there, but nothing has changed on this site’s setup and teachPress is still partly working. So it’s all very strange! Can anyone help shed some light on this?

    Best regards

    David

    Hi,

Please check, if you see the database update message in the “All publications” screen of teachPress in the WordPress backend or under “Settings->teachPress”. If the message is still there, please click on the the “Update to …” link. The new version (9.0.0) of the plugin requires a new column in the publication database table, which will be added with this database update. If there is a mismatch between the columns in the database table and the columns which the plugin expected, it leads to the issues.

A second idea is, that the update was not downloaded correctly. So, the new update to 9.0.1 perhaps solves the issue.

    Hi winkm89,

We tried the Update to 9.0.0 in the first instance before this, but it didn’t take any effect. And unfortunately, doing the same now for the 9.0.1 update option that has appeared has also not brought the lists back.

Very strangely though, since that last update, for the one tP list that is still partially displaying, it now shows a less squashed list and with two columns (before it was just the single column right over on the left side).

I can’t upload any images here for some reason, but any help here is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately the publication list is being used on the homepage of this site!

    Best,

Could you post a link to your hompage? This might be helpful to see the issues. ??

Yes for sure! We couldn’t find a way to directly send that to you via this website, so we’ve sent it to the email address listed on your own website (hope that’s OK).

    Thanks ??

Hi @winkm89, sorry to chase but just wondered if you had had a chance to look into this one? We still can’t make any sense of it our side so far!

    Hi winkm89,

I’ve returned here to mark this as solved thanks to your help over email.

But also to ask a question regarding teachPress Publications page triggering a Cloudflare firewall security block and realised I had asked that as well in this thread originally.

As mentioned, we were able to solve the disappeared publications, they now all show as normal at: /wp-admin/admin.php?page=publications.php

We can create a new publication via ‘Add’ as normal, however if we select ‘Edit’ under any item it triggers a Cloudflare Ray ID relating to its firewall: https://developers.cloudflare.com/waf/

Is there any possible reason Cloudflare’s firewall may be mistaking teachPress as malicious? I am attempting to add an exception for this in Cloudflare, but it is proving extremely complex to do via their platform natively or via API. Equally switching to Amazon’s Clound Front for instance will be a significant task, so any potential information here as to anything that could be going on on TP’s side would be great.

We only ask as it is specifically isolated to this teachPress ‘Edit’ item function only, across the entire site; while no other sites on our servers trigger any Cloudflare event blocks.

    Thanks in advance

Hi @winkm89, sorry to keep chasing on this – is it possible to shed any light on what could be going on here?

    Thanks ??

I have no idea why Cloudflare blocks the edit URLs. But, I’ve changed the structure of the links with version 9.0.4 a bit. Maybe that helps….

That has fixed it, thanks! One report back from the users is while this works as normal again now, the block is still triggering when using the ‘delete’ function for any of the items. This is not vital for the usage as they can now get into the post types again; but just thought we would feed that back for you in case the same fix is possible there too.
