Sorry, Just not getting the Domain Mapping??
-
Hi,
I’m new at this, I spent the weekend installing and setting up the multi blog plugin. I read the entire pdf file explaining the setup. Everything was going fine until I tried to set up a sub folder domain. Ok, let me try to explain it like this.
I installed WP 3.0.1 on my server (Justhost.com) not my first WP website, but the first multisite setup. The website address is https://www.toyourbestofhealth.com. I proceeded to do the setup as discribed in the pdf document I bought and as I said, I think everything went fine. So, I bought another domain name: https://www.allstateseniorservices.com. I registered it through Justhost so I assumed the DNS were right, but still I put the IP address in the setup form as requested by the instructions. I loaded all the plugins that were required. Everything works fine. I don’t see any problems with any of the setup.
Now, my second domain I want to map it to the first (main domain toyourbestofhealth) I keep reading from everyone to go to the “Tools” menu to find a domain link. I don’t have one. Under Super Admin I have “Domain Mapping” and “Domains”
OK, Under Domain Mapping I can successfully setup allstateseniorservices as a sub account. I save that and I’m able to go to sites and visit it and it looks fine with a default theme, (which is not the one I’m using on the main site).
Then I go under Supper Admin to the “Domains” link, and the window Domain Mapping: Domains pops up with a “new Domain” form where I put the Site ID for the sub folder, then I put the actual domain URL in the next field. . . and this is where I seem to have a problem.
If I do not select the “Primary” button . . . I can call the new site from the url https://www.toyourbestofhealth.com/allstateseniorservices/ just as before as a sub directory.
If I do select the “Primary” button and I go back to “Sites” and hit view, it does take me to the main URL https://www.allstateseniorservices.com, but I have no theme installed, I just see a white page with my cgi bin link. . . like there is no website installed.
I can go back and un-select the Primary button and we are back to simply having a subdirectory link in the browser and the default theme is their again.
I don’t understand why the system is not allowing the main domain to show up with the default theme?
I hope this make since to someone, I’ve only become aware of this multi blogs in one account thing just this weekend and I’m not familiar with the terminology.
If I could just figure out how to get the Mapping to work right I think I will be off and running!
Please help.
