I’m not comfortable with the way it currently works. For one thing, I’m more comfortable entering text in the visual editor so I have more options where formatting is concerned.
My recommendation is to set up the plugin so that you can first select the text you wish to put into columns, and then click on the columns button. The formatting in question would then apply to that text and only that text. The purpose here being to allow the poster to format the post the way he wants. Say a centered header in a single column, then text below that in two columns, followed by a table in one column. It would make the plugin more useful to me
