Some Yoast XML Sitemap can not be read by Google Search Console

  • Hi,

    Although the sitemaps above can be indexed by Google for my site (trevorpenfold.com) it can’t find/fetch this one by Yoast: /attachment-sitemap.xml even though I can find it via url.

    Help please, Yoast??

    Hello @tokar86a,

    Thanks for using the Yoast SEO plugin. I understand the Google Search Console couldn’t fetch your tag and category sitemaps. If you click on both sitemaps in the console, is there further information on why they couldn’t be fetched?

    @5high: is there an error reported for your attachment sitemap?

    Yes it say the following information: Sitemap could not be read.

    @maybellyne: sorry for the delay – yes it says it ‘can’t be fetched’ and ‘can’t find it’ with a 404 error – BUT I can see it’s url!

    Any ideas?

    @maybellyne: ….and when I get Google to ‘Inspect’ the url it says this: ‘URL is not on Google. This page is not indexed. Pages that aren’t indexed can’t be served on Google. Page is not indexed: URL is unknown to Google. Discovery – Sitemaps. No referring sitemaps detected. Referring page – None detected.

    @tokar86a: Both sitemaps are fine, and it’s unclear why Google Search Console couldn’t fetch them. There’s usually additional information as to why they aren’t fetched. Please remove all the sitemaps and resubmit just the sitemap index

    @5high: I doubt you have the same issue as the original poster. Please open a new request. That way, it’s easier to track issues and provide assistance. Also, include a screenshot of the Google Search Console notification about the 404 error.
