The configuration wizard will not save the Site Type to anything but the first three choices. I also can not change the Multiple Authors settings. The others settings save fine. I deactivated all plugins except Yoast and set my theme to TwentyTwenty, but this problem continues. There are no errors in the JS Console.

I also created a fresh WordPress installation and had the same issue with the Site Type, but the multiple authors would save.

For the multiple authors, I can turn disable the archives under settings so I don’t believe I need the wizard for this. Is there somewhere I can set the site type outside of the wizard? What does this affect?

Should I submit this as a bug on Github?

I also had another issue that was a conflict with WPML String Translation plugin. In that case, I could not save the normal settings of Yoast with WPML String Translation enabled. I submitted a ticket to WPML for this. Should this also be reported to you on Github?

    Thanks!

  • Hi @lyeffeth,

    Thank you for reaching out.

You have identified multiple concerns so we will address each one separately below.

Site type in the configuration wizard
This setting is currently not affecting any setting. You are correct that the latter options are not getting saved. We just reproduced this behavior in a test environment. We’ll make sure to notify our development team. Step 2 is, at this time, only used when you’d opt-in for tracking. We mention this in our configuration guide too: https://yoast.com/yoast-seo-configuration-wizard/#step_2.

For the multiple authors, I can turn disable the archives under settings so I don’t believe I need the wizard for this.
Yes, you can alter this under SEO → Search Appearance → Archives (tab) → Author archive settings.

I also had another issue that was a conflict with WPML String Translation plugin.
We are not completely sure what you mean by ‘save the normal settings’. Can you give us a little more information on what happens (or doesn’t happen)? We know that WPML has an integration addon to let WPML and Yoast SEO work better together. Are you confirm that you have Yoast SEO Multilingual installed and it’s their latest release (v1.2.3)? If not, please install their addon, you should be able to find this plugin in your WPML account downloads.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Regarding the WPML String Translation conflict, by normal settings, I just meant any Yoast SEO settings outside of the wizard. For example, setting author and date archives to either enabled or disabled. This won’t save when WPML String Translations is active. This is with the Yoast SEO Multilingual plugin version 1.2.3 installed as well.

    Hi @lyeffeth,

Thank you for that information. We’ve checked on a test environment with the latest WPML, String translation and Yoast SEO Multilingual plugins together with Yoast SEO 14.9 and were not able to reproduce this behavior. We were able to save settings on different setting pages, including the author date archive settings.

If you have all the latest WPML and Yoast versions installed, and all other plugins, themes and WordPress are up to date as well. We would like you to do a conflict check using the Health Check troubleshooting plugin. We have a step-by-step guide here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/.

Yes, everything is up to date. This is a staging site we are getting ready to launch. I did a conflict check using the Health Check plugin and reproduced the error.

The plugins I had enabled during this check were:
    Yoast SEO
    WPML Multilingual CMS
    WPML String Translation
    Yoast SEO Multilingual

@lyeffeth Thanks for confirming. Whereas we weren’t able to replicate it, it may be something specific to your environment as well.

Based on the information you provided, we expect this to be a bug. We’re actively using the bug tracking on our GitHub repository so your best next step would be to create a new issue for our developers at https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/new. You will need an account to create a new issue. If this is your first bug report, please check out: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-write-a-good-bug-report/.

Thanks, Carl. I will submit a bug report.

Update: WPML released an update to the String Translation plugin which fixed the issue.

    Hi @lyeffeth,

Good to hear they fixed it on their end. Thank you for letting us know.
