• This has been going on for a few days now. The following sections in my dashboards all say “Loading…”:
    Broken Link Checker
    Incoming Links
    The Latest from W3 EDGE
    Plugins

Additionally, the following widgets are just blank and won’t toggle open:
    Wordpress Blog
    Other WordPress News
    SiteStats
    Pageviews (chart)

All of the open widgets that do work can’t be toggled closed.

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

Okay, the 1st and 3rd option scare me, because I’m not too great with the backend stuff, but I managed to do #2 (and got rid of W3), and it brought back the Incoming Links and Plugins widgets, but not the Broken Link Checker (which still says “Loading…”), SiteStats or Pageviews (chart) (which are just empty boxes).

WordPress Blog and Other WordPress News are closed and won’t toggle open.

But here’s a new thing – I can’t access my currently installed plugins. When I click the link, it takes me to an Error 404 page on my regular blog.

Please try all of the steps I listed above.

If I switch my theme, won’t I lose all of my current setup? I had a designer do it for me, I’d never be able to replicate it.

If I reupload the files and folders, will that supercede all my current settings? Same concern as above…

If I switch my theme, won’t I lose all of my current setup?

    That shouldn’t happen.

If I reupload the files and folders, will that supercede all my current settings?

As long as you avoid the wp-content folder, absolutely not. Your site’s content & settings are saved in your database.

I tried but can’t figure out how to upload only certain folders. Can you spell it out for me, please?

FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) & delete the wp-admin & wp-includes folders plus everything in the root folder except the wp-config.php and .htaccess files. Then upload new copies from a fresh download of WordPress.

Okay, I’m ready delete the files, but before I do, I want to make sure I can finish right. Do you mind breaking down the upload, too, please?

Upload the wp-admin & wp-includes folders plus everything in the root wordpress folder.

Where do I upload them from?

From the freshly downloaded, unpacked, copy of WordPress.

Okay, I’m freaking out a little here. I deleted the files and it’s taking forever for the new ones to be uploaded. Meanwhile, my blog is dead in the water…

Patience, grasshopper. The world will not end if your site goes AWOL for 20 – 30 minutes. ??

I admit, patience is not my best feature! It’s been almost an hour and a half, though. Is that normal?

No – it’s not. Are you using FTP or your hosts’ file management application?
