That’s how it should work. No browser plays MPEGs 1 or 2 natively, and the Flash player doesn’t support them either. You would need a specialized player installed on every user’s computer in order to get MPEG 1 or 2 to play. H.264 in an MP4 container is the most widely compatible format, which is why your MP4 works.

    Thanks! Video newbie here!

Can I upload an mpeg 2 and have it convert to mp4?

Then link to the correct file?

Also, the video encode queue appears to be stuck. I deleted a video before it finished. And now I see it just sitting there, and the next one is waiting … for 12 hrs now.

    Anyway to purge the queue?

    Thanks!

Yes, it sounds like you have FFMPEG on your server, so you can upload an MPEG-2 and convert it to an H.264 MP4 using my plugin.

If you delete the original I would expect the encoding queue to notice that. Would you mind doing a little troubleshooting for me? Can you check in your current uploads directory (wp_content/uploads/2013/03) and see if there are any log files in there with your deleted video’s name? If so, can you give me the text of the last couple lines?
