• This works quite well for most editing tasks and has proven a great help in customizing my plugins.

However, and pardon my noobishness, but edits to some plugin files won’t save, for example Nice Login Widget. Is this because it’s a widget and not a normal plugin, or have they somehow protected their files against tampering?
Not even the slightest edit will save (e.g., a single char in a comment).
After attempting save, I don’t get the confirmation notice at top and when I clear the cache on the edit page, the edit is gone.

You don’t get any notification at all when attempting to edit the file? (No errors or warnings either?)

That does sound strange, I’ll have to test it with that plugin then, could you tell me which file in the plugin you attempted to edit if it has more than one file?

Also keep in mind that any changes made would be overwritten if you ever grab a new copy of the plugin via the WordPress update interface, just a heads up there as it sounds like you might be making permanent edits ??

There’s no indication of any kind, neither acknowledgement nor error.

The “unsaveable” file in the aforementioned plugin is pw-login-widget.php

Edits of the file pw-login-widget.css were saved successfully, so it’s only certain (rare?) files that String Locator has trouble with.

edit: I neglected to mention that I’m using the latest versions of Nice Login, String Locator and WP…

    Hi,

I can’t seem to replicate the problems you are facing, I’m wondering if the files you are struggling with is behaving so strange due to some wonky permissions on those actual files, I am curious as to why they are not being detected as “un-editable” though.

Are you able to confirm if the permissions or user and owner of the file matches the CSS file that you are able to edit?
