Some users cannot login after activating iThemes Security. Narly a year, I had to deactivate it a month ago because from Google News they could not access to verify our website with this plugin activated. Now that we have activated it again, some web editor users cannot login: when logging in with his username and password, “error” appears on the login screen.

If we disable iThemes Security, they can log in again. I have tried disabling other plugins, like WP Rocket, but the result is the same. I also tried disabling all of the iThemes Security options, leaving the plugin active, and even the result is the same. It is not a problem with the cache of his browser, nor is it an IP block, since they can connect from a mobile phone with the same IP.

I love iThemes Security, it offers a security layer that I wish WordPress offered natively, even its free version is incredible what it brings. The bad thing is this, having a problem like this, that the key users to generate content cannot login in the website, and don’t have a response in more than 24 hours.

I have tried to find it by myself, visited posts on this support forum, and a variety of other websites, but I don’t know how to find the solution.

I had not read this in the FAQ about this forum:

“Note: this is community-provided support. iThemes does not monitor the www.remarpro.com support forums”

So all I can do is disable iThemes Security to fix the problem. I’ve been going through other similar posts, and everywhere, and there’s no way of knowing how to fix this problem. It’s a shame, because it’s a good security plugin, but if you don’t monitor your support forums for bugs like this… it’s no use.

Since I have found the solution, and someone might be in the same problem as me, I am going to share it.

As I said, it only happened with some users. Checking the type of user profile, it only happened with the Editor profile, while the Author and Admin profile could be logged without problem. I have reviewed the permissions of both types of users, and they are configured well, but the Author was not asked to change the password, while the Editors had been asked.

The solution has been to deactivate the “require strong passwords” box in the “Password requirements” section of iThemes Security, which is not necessary in our case, since all users in themselves use strong passwords. By deactivating this box, the Editors have been able to log on to the web without any problem. This option does not work well, because with all the plugins deactivated, it only affects the Editors. I hope iThemes Security team fixes this issue.

Hi! It was exactly the same problem, it let the administrators in without problems, but it didn’t let the other users in. Thanks for the tip, it helped me solve my problem. I hope that the developers of the plugin can fix this detail.
