How does one make on a multiple page blog or webpage using commentpress that comments are enabled on some pages and not others

There is a setting to enable or disable commenting in the “Edit Page” section of each page.

And on the pages they are not enabled on, how does one get rid of the small question mark bubbles?

Hmm, the bubbles exist even on pages where commenting has been disabled because such pages could have had comments open and later switched off – this is to allow comments on such pages to be visible. You could hide the bubbles with some CSS. Or for more serious control, use a child theme.

(2) On pages on which comments are enabled how does one get rid of question mark bubbles and enable comments to be made simply by clicking on the text?

CSS or a child theme again, I think.

(3) On pages where comments are enabled, how does one disable comments on some chunks of text and not others while retaining paragraph breaks, headers, etc.?

Sorry, but this isn’t possible at present.

Hi,
I am only seeing the page-level disable/enable comment setting if I use “Quick Edit”, not the regular “Edit Page” interface. Does this depend on which version of the plugin one is using?

Either way, I just wanted to mention it here for other users who may otherwise spend hours trying to figure out why they can’t find that option when in the “Edit Page” window (as I did).

@naomibl Have you enabled “Discussion” in the “Screen Options” panel? It may be disabled on pages by default – but I can assure you that it is present in the regular “Edit Page” interface.

@needle, you’re right–that’s the secret!

I had to go to the “Screen Options” panel within a specific page to enable “discussion”, as you say, and then the option to enable or disable comments appears on the Edit screen for all pages.

I had previously only looked at the “Screen Options” panel of the “All Pages” view, which had author, comments, date enabled.

Again, thanks for helping me overcome my oversight. I tend to get lost in the WP interface. Nonetheless, I suspect I won’t be the only one to run into this so hopefully this thread can help others.

I agree that this particular technique which WordPress uses to de-clutter the interface is rather opaque, so thanks for your input – I’m sure it will help someone faced with the same issue.

To bring this thread to a conclusion, I should mention that there’s a new setting labelled “Disable CommentPress on entries with no comments” which achieves this result.
