Some pages marked as Restricted after import

    After completing my design on a staging site and importing to the main site, some of the pages do not load. Instead, there is just an error message of Restricted. I tried disabling Wordfence, but that did not help. I also contacted my web host, and they said they wouldn’t know unless they looked through the code to try to find a cause.

    This only occurred after this import, soI am wondering if something happened during the export and import.

    I haven’t heard of this issue before.
    If a page shows as restricted… something must be restricting access to it.
    The possible culprits are:
    .htaccess
    user role – when a post type can be accessed by a certain user group
    security plugins
    webserver configuration

    That’s about everything I can think of.

    I discussed the issue with our web host which said that it may be due to the fact that some additional code got inserted into the .htaccess file from the old version of the website when the new one was imported. I edited the .htaccess file, and I also tried disabling the security plugin. I maintain the site, so my user role is fine.

    The old site can only run on an outdated version of PHP, so I am gradually removing the old files. I may have to leave some because the site will crash if I don’t.
