• WP Smush facilitates image compression by doing it automatically. However, it is not as much help as I had hoped for. I previously used RIOT for compression and could save at least 30% – 50% per image. WP Smush has saved 9.1M over 2384 graphics. That is an average of 3.8K – just slightly over 3%. Frankly, I am not sure that it is worth the overhead.

  • I am sorry to hear you didn’t get the results you expected. Thank you for the feedback. The compression the free version of Smush offers is lossless. Smush Lossless compression serves a different purpose than Riot. Smush is most effective for images sized and for the web. It strips unused data without effecting image quality. Lossy compression which is available in the pro version of Smush gives you a smaller image file by changing the actual image quality. Naturally, you can squeeze more from your images with a lossy compressor. I hope that helps explain the different services so you can better find a service that meets your specific needs.
