some functionality not working on pages

I have lists of posts working on a page. The following don’t seem to be working:
1) width setting does not change the display of the width
2) thumbnails are not showing. I do have thumbnails working in another plugin. Is there anything special that needs to be done to activate this feature?Suggestion:
It would be nice to be able to control font size of the titles on this list only – not on posts. I use large titles on posts, but on a list it would look better to use smaller fonts.
