Some fonts are garbled after latest update

Hello,
after updating to 1.16.1 from 1.15.6, some fonts are garbled. We have undone the plugin update, but here is a screenshot:

A PDF in question for example is https://leonet.de/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/20240124_015Q_2023_LEONET_Kommunenbroschuere_210x210.pdf
and can be seen on https://leonet.de/kommunen/ as the top PDF (the screenshot is from page 3). The bottom PDF also exhibited the garbled font when v.1.16.1 was in place.
