I am having a problem with the following blog post (the issue may apply to other posts, but I haven’t noticed it doing so):
    https://www.darkoptimism.org/2013/01/20/the-secret-truth-behind-environmentalists/

14 comments have been left on this post, but for some reason only 10 are displaying to readers (correct me if I’m wrong!). Once I log in (as admin) and refresh the page, all 14 appear.

Looking at the Comments page within my dashboard I cannot find any difference between those behaving in one way and those behaving in the other. All are approved. I’m not sure what else to investigate. Any ideas?

The last comment that is displaying normally was posted on 9 March, 2013. The first comment that is behaving strangely was posted on 5 May, 2013. The most recent on 23 July, 2013. Perhaps a WP update happened between 9 March and 5 May?? just a thought… definitely need help with this one!

*Some* comments on my post only show once I am logged in

That’s weird. Sounds like you are running a server based cache such as W3TC or WP Super Cache. That would do it too as logged in users would see the un-cached version while everyone else would see what may be an old cached copy from your server.

If you are using a server based caching plugin then see if you can manually clear that cache. Then clear your browser’s cache and cookies and visit that URL again.

If that doesn’t work and if those comments are approved then try the usual temporary troubleshooting steps.

    – Keep an eye on one comment that only shows up when you are logged in.

    – Deactivate all of your plugins (no exceptions).

    – Switch to the Twenty Twelve theme.

    – Clear your browser’s cache and cookies.

    – Revisit the URL to see if all the comments are displayed.

Hopefully it’s just a server based cache and clearing it will fix it.

Many thanks Jan. Yes, weird one, huh? ??

At first I thought you’d cracked it, and so I went to check my W3 Total Cache settings. But then remembered that I uninstalled W3 Total Cache a while ago as it was causing me so many problems of just this type!

You’re right though – caching problems seems a prime candidate for the cause. Below is a list of my active plugins – might any of these cause similar caching problems? CloudFlare perhaps??

Just coming back with an update for anyone having similar problems. It turns out the problem was indeed W3 Total Cache, *even though I had disabled and deleted it*.

This plugin has a deficient uninstall process. For full uninstall instructions see this helpful post.

After performing those operations my blog is fully operational again. Phew! ??
