[Share]Cannot login from IE after moving wordpress site

After moving my wordpress site from local to live server, I wasn’t able to log into the admin panel. The password is correct as there is no error about incorrect password (If I entered an incorrect password deliberately the error was shown).

I simply could not get out of the login screen! Strangely enough I could login to admin in Chrome; Firefox only worked occasionally. I spent the last 2.5 hours searching and reading more than 20 threads&documents on this problem, trying every method. None helped. Just before I was desperate and was about to cry for help in the forums, I realized it might be a redirect problem. Finally I changed the URL from
https://www.xyz.com/wp-admin
to
https://www.xyz.com/wp-admin/index.php
It works! Hope it can help those facing the same problem. And perhaps someone can explain why.
