• Esmi, who I’m sure is working very hard to support all of us, is telling everyone to clear their browser cache, switch computers, and all that business.

But if you know how to use the Google Chrome inspector or Firefox firebug, there’s a much simpler, faster solution to turn off test mode and turn on live mode for eshop.

NOTE: Please feel free to follow the advice given out by the authors of the plugin, which is right here: https://quirm.net/wiki/eshop/troubleshooting/cant-switch-eshop-to-live/

However, since that didn’t work at all for me, here’s what I did:

    1. Inspect the Settings>Eshop>General page
    2. Search for “eshop-admin”
    3. When you find a <div id=”eshop-admin”> then look for where it’s been hidden, and unclick the little “display:none” box.
    4. Then you’ll see what you’ve been looking for!

Now, Esmi, I realize that this is a wordpress/jquery caching issue, but surely you could post a solution that will WORK 100% of the time instead of closing every thread on the issue.

Love the plugin in general, hate how the support’s been handled so far (and admin email notifications are screwy).

If there’s one setting that would be quite helpful in order to not have to “hack” the code, it would have been wonderful to allow me to select a custom post type, rather than modifying the core plugin for that tiny little thing.

Ah. And another alternate solution I should link to (I didn’t test this one myself):

hate how the support’s been handled so far

Please feel free to use another free ecommerce plugin with free support.

    And another alternate solution

That was documented in the eShop wiki months before that post.

The wiki’s been quite helpful, and I’m not meaning to bash you.

But when users come up with solutions that actually work to large problems that — even though they aren’t your fault — hurt the user experience and disable critical functionality, and then you say, “no, stop doing that, do it our way!” then something’s gone awry.

I wouldn’t have bothered posting this, but I spent some time looking in the forums, kept on coming across the solution in your wiki (which didn’t work for me or any other actual user I saw posting), then saw you actively discouraging people from using solutions that people said worked for them (e.g. adding another user before clearing the cache), I felt like it might be helpful to repost one that works and should work 100% of the time, for everyone on Chrome or Firefox.

    Hope it helps someone!

BTW — I do really like the plugin. Was the only thing I could find with decent “out-of-the-box” support for doing invoicing rather than direct online payments. Great job with it, if you’re one of the developers.

the wiki’s been quite helpful, and I’m not meaning to bash you.

Really? Now try reading your initial posts. comments like “hate how the support’s been handled so far”. And try to factor in the number of hours it takes to offer free support for this free plugin.

users come up with solutions that actually work

That user was merely reproducing a set of steps that we had been advising for weeks before and that was fully documented in the plugin’s wiki.

then saw you actively discouraging people from using solutions that people said worked for them

The only solutions that we actively discourage are those that involve editing the core plugin. Do that and we can no longer offer any support. So I think some discouragement is reasonable under the circumstances and is in the best interests of the plugin’s users.

e.g. adding another user before clearing the cache

And yes – I am one of the the two developers involved. And the one who writes all of the documentation and does 95% of all of the support. So I know the plugin pretty well.

Meant just inspecting the element. That’s the solution that works that you don’t want people using.

You’re absolutely right. No one else help, please! (You’ll note that the only link in my initial post was to your wiki’s guide; I’m not exactly directing people away.)

In any event, thanks for all that you do (sincerely), [moderated] and have a good one!

    Hi Jon,

I’ve inspected the eshop General page using Firebug and found the <div id=”eshop-admin”> element. However, I don’t understand the last part of your instruction:

“…then look for where it’s been hidden, and unclick the little “display:none” box”

How exactly do you look for where it’s hidden? And I’m not used to seeing a “…little “display:none” box” embedded within html or css code.

I must be missing something. I really need the fix and could use some more specific guidance.

Anything you can do to help would be much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Carlos
