    We install the plugin and set it up to redirect all 404 to our landing page Sacher.com

    Basically it works as a visitor we don’t get any 404 and we land on the home page.

    However the Search Console shows many errors (soft 404)

    I checked the http code with Fetch as Google and another tool. Both say there is a 301 redirect.

    Would you have any idea to solve this point ?

    Many thanks

    Best,
    Alexis

    In addition to my previous message where I mentioned one URL there are actually more than 200 soft 404 for as much URLs all redirected via a 301

    Thank you for your help

    Google has been very clear that redirecting all the “not found” pages to the home page is a very poor user experience and so will treat those redirects as a “not found” anyway (soft 404).

    If you think like a user, it makes sense. Why would they end up on a home page instead of the page they asked for? That’s the whole purpose of an actual 404 error page. To let them know what they are specifically looking for is no longer there, and then to offer suggestions for how they might find additional info that would be of use.

    Hope that helps;

    Paul

    Thanks thompsonpaul for your prompt reply,
    you are right dear,
    this plugin will be useful to redirect to the home page, but not a solution for your broken links, you have to redirect your broken link to the new page (the alternative page) using any redirection plugin,
