    Hello,

I switched from Minimatica to Hitchcock and I′m having problems publishing the social media menu using the in build features of Hitchcock. All media icons show up fine as I′m creating it but once I push publish a note appears saying that there′s some trouble with publishing the menu. I′d really appreciate some help on this. Thank you.

    Hi @samare,

Can you give some more details on what trouble you run into? When you’re editing the social menu, you should be able to just select the “Social” menu location in the bottom of the page and hit update.

    Hi Anders,

So the problem is that when I try to create a social media menu all is well and all the social icons appear accurately and register. But when I press ′′publish′′ this message always appears ′′Looks like something’s gone wrong. Wait a couple seconds, and then try again.′′

Thanks so much for letting me know what to do.

@samare Odd – sounds like a problem in WordPress rather than the theme, though. You can try adding the menu through the Customizer instead, and see if that helps. If not, try disabling all plugins and see if it works then. If not, try reinstalling WordPress (through Admin → Updates) and give it another go.

@anlino thank you for the suggestions. I tried to add the menu through customizer + disable all plugins but none of this worked so I re-activated all the plugins again after trying. Will try to reinstall wordpress but there is no update button under Admin so not really sure what′s going on…

@anlino I figured out how to update wordpress and did it but that didn′t help either I′m afraid. Thanks for trying to help though and if you have any other suggestions then I′m happy to try.

@samare Can you save any menus other than the social menu? If you can’t, then there’s something really funky going on – corruption in the database tables, or something similar.

If you can’t save any other menus, try removing all menu items from the social menu, add a really simple one (like one to https://www.facebook.com), and check if you can save and publish the menu then.

@anlino thanks so much for getting back to me. This is making me quite frustrated and sad because I really would like to keep the Hitchcock theme. I think it looks nice and I would be so happy if we could figure this out.?I tried the cache, to update wordpress, and several times to disable all the plug-ins etc. I even re-installed Hitchcock thinking that perhaps that would help but nothing seems to work. It seems that the no social media plug ins that I had before activating Hitchcock work either so I can′t add plug ins to replace the in-built social media meny in Hitchcock either:/

The main menu works fine. Everything works except for the social media menu. When I add the menu in ′′manage with live preview′′ I can register all the social media through custom links? but when I push ′′publish′′ then nothing shows up and the error message appears. Even something as simple as facebook can′t be published in the social media menu unfortunately, I tried edless amounts of times.

If I however go through Appearance—Menus to edit the social media menu that way, then there are no custom links box at all. So there is no way to even register the social media sites at all. Could it be that the system is not registering the social media menu as a social media menu despite it stating clearly next to it that it is the social media menu? Or is it that there′s something about custom links that aren′t registering?

Thanks again for your efforts to help

Sorry, typed a bit too fast. It should be: ′′It seems that the social media plug ins that I had before activating Hitchcock don′t work either so I can′t add plug ins to replace the in-built social media meny in Hitchcock either:/′′

Fortunately I figured it out. There was a problem with syncronicity between custom links between different menus. I aligned them and clicked all the custom links boxes in all the menu set ups (screen options) and it is now possible to make the necessary changes, fortunately.

Glad it has been figured out now but thanks nevertheless for your previous advice @anlino

    All the best,
