Social Bar plugin loads ransomware
-
I am developing a website using the mac code editor Coda 2.5. Mamp 3.3 runs my local server. I recently added a WordPress blog to the site and was browsing social media plugin options from WordPress’s site. After clicking on the Social Bar plugin (NOT Floating Social Bar), Coda locked up. It appears that the link on WordPress’s site loaded ransomware onto my local site.
Some of the message is:
JavaScript
“Critical Security Warning! Your System is infected with a malicious adward [sic] attack.
Please contact tech support at 1-855-462-1908 …”The toll free number is a fraud and is located in India. (I have not called it; the information is from the web.) Note also the misspelling in the JavaScript pop-up. I have restarted the browser, the computer, and removed all of Safari’s extensions. I have no trouble with Safari when launched from my dock. I assume the malicious piece of JavaScript is running inside of Coda or the locally hosted blog. In any event, does anyone have suggestions on how to remove the malicious JS?
