so slow I got an offer to host it elsewhere

My WP 2.2. hosted with dreamhost (wp-cache enabled) is so slow (I’m getting lots of complaints around me) that a friend just offered me some space on his mediatemple hosting.

Before I say yes (should I ?) what can I do to speed this blog a little.

Are there any plugin among the usual slow suspects ?

My index page displays RSS feeds and advertising scripts. Is that the first place I should look for what’s causingh this crawling (Last time I checked, slashdot and digg were still unaware of my existence)
