I hope my blatant attempt at getting a few views in my post title is ok. I’m a business guy, one who has not blogged in the past, and I’m looking for a recommendation from some people who know a lot more about this than I do.

I need my blog to look like this. It seems like this isn’t too tough, and it would keep me from trying to embed a WordPress blog into an existing page that already looks like that. My boss is kicking around the idea of my paying to have it done, but is it something I can figure out and do myself? If so, I’ll do it myself. I’d rather learn how to do it than pay to have it done. The way I see it, I have a couple of image files, and three sections of links, with the blog in the middle. Not knowing a thing, the hardest part looks like getting the pretty blue gradient background on either side of the page.

I need the blog to look like this so it’s consistent with the corporate page.

Anyone care to give me their thoughts?

(Yes, I am an MBA. I do have a small amount of technical aptitude; I was able to get the basic blog loaded without any help on my personal site on my own, and I have limited coding experience in visual basic for applications writing scripts for Excel.)

I should clarify – if I get some advice that says, “Sure, you could figure that out,” I will spend the weekend cramming on the topic. Go buy some books, read up on it, and find what I can on the Web. Not just come spam the board. “How do I change the color of my font? It doesn’t match yet!”

Just wondering what y’all think about how steep the learning curve is and whether or not I should spend my boss’s money on a book or a consultant.

well are you looking for any kind of help for the template to be developed.

I can help you with it.You can contact me if you would like me to help you on the development of theme as you wanted.

    Regards,
    Sam.

Well, as theme’s go, the one you’re aiming for is fairly simple. If you just need a theme that resembles that one, with somewhat similar functionality, you could probably find one that does what you need out-of-the-box.

If you need a theme that exactly matches it, you’re going to want to find a theme that gets close, and adjust the code to get the rest of the way. If you have zero coding/PHP/CSS experience, there’s a relatively significant learning curve, and invariably you’ll run into some snags. You’ll find it difficult to understand why your CSS is affecting your page layout the way it is, and you may struggle with the PHP code.

Generally, though, digging into a theme and playing around with it is a great way to start learning. It’s how I’ve done it, and you really do learn a lot about the structure of WordPress and what makes it go.

In short: If you’ve got to exactly match that layout you linked to, it’d put it at moderate difficulty if you’ve never done coding but have some general technical know-how.
