I inherited a site w/ nearly 1500 images spanning years and multiple website users/admins. I could tell that many pics in the media library were not in use and not needed… but which ones?!?!?
All I can say is this: I found this plugin, added it to my site, read/followed the instructions, and ran it. Within literally minutes, over 500 unused images were found and removed, trimming up nearly 600mb of space!
DO NOT USE THE FREE VERSION ON A DIVI THEME WEBSITE !!!!
The basic/free version of this plug-in doesn’t recognize the Divi builder (and probably other page builders as well) but the paid/pro version DOES. In this particular case, I was converting the site TO Divi, so I simply ran the tool BEFORE switching over. (It did strip the images from the ONE Divi page I had started working on, but I knew which images were needed on that page and simply re-uploaded them. Everything sync’d right back up and the Divi page worked fine after that.)
Also, if you are notified about the media “trash” not being active, I highly recommend adding the provided line of code to your php config file so that you DO have the trash option. Even though there is still one chance to “change your mind” (about which items you delete) w/o the trash enabled, it’s was a real comfort having a second confirmation check.
