    Hi there,

I downloaded Smush and used it to compress my whole media library (10.000 image). However, after finishing, I still get the message that I there are 10.000 images to Smush. https://prnt.sc/uoadb9

    How is this possible?

    Hi @tattoofinders,

Do you have any kind of server-side caching, like object cache for example?
If you do, can you try clearing that as it’s possible that Smush is getting incorrect information from the DB and clearing the server-side cache can help in these cases.

Let us know if that helped.

    Cheers,
    Predrag

Thank you for using Smush. We are going to close this ticket for now because we have not heard from you in a while. If you still need support we can reopen the thread.

    Hi there,

Sorry, it took me some time to respond.

I have tried to solve this issue by disabling my caching plugin (WP Rocket). Then, I smushed all my images again. https://prnt.sc/uxjtqb

After that, I enabled my caching plugin, emptied my cache and preloaded it again. The problem should be solved now, because the cache is created using the newly smushed images, right?

I ran Smush again to re-check the images, and again I get the message that I have 10000+ images to Smush. https://prnt.sc/uxjuk4

However, when I check individual pages to check if images have been compressed or not, the images seem to have been compressed as I get a green check sign. https://prnt.sc/uxjzpe

Problem solved I guess? Maybe a small bug in your plugin?

    Hi @tattoofinders

This “Green check” isn’t related directly to smushing/compressing images but rather to the fact whether images have right dimensions (to fit properly in their containers). You can switch that off on “Smush -> Dashboard -> Tools” page by switching off the “Detect and show incorrectly sized images” option.

The “compress/re-compress” message is a bit different thing. The message that you are getting – if the bulk-smushing process appears to complete correctly – might be caused by smushing statistics either “cached” or not correctly saved to the database. They are stored in the database and some types of “strict” caching can affect them.

There is a way, however, to find out whether it’s about stats only. Could you please go to “Media Library” on your site and then switch it to “List” view instead of “Grid view” (unless it’s already in list view) and there should be an option at the top to filter by Smush statuses – a drop-down list to select “Smush: All images”, “Smush: not processed” and “Bulk ignored”.

Select “Smush: not processed” from that list and click on “Filter” button. If that gives a list of images then look in “Smush” column if they have an option there to get Smushed and also check if those reported files are of image type or they are e.g. PDFs (which wouldn’t of course be optimized).

If it returns all the images, then we are indeed dealing with “Bulk Smush” process not working. If it returns little to no images it suggests that we are dealing with “stats” issues – so the message that you are getting (to compress 10k of images) being “false alert”.

Could you check that please and let us know?

    Best regards,
    Adam

    Hi there,

Thank you for your detailed explanation!

I have followed the steps as you described, and noticed that the images have been Smushed! So I guess it’s just a false alarm and your plugin works properly ??

Just another question, if I upload new images and I want to Smush these, I can’t use the bulk Smush option (as this detects all images, instead of just the new ones). How should I smush the new images only? By going to the media library and selecting these images? Or another way?

    Hello @tattoofinders

That’d be right, you can smush images individually from the Media library:
