    Hi there,

I just started using the free version of Smush but after running the bulk smush on my entire site, it seems that some galleries on desktop get a strange resizing/ stretching (see https://nilsdecker.com/beauty/ or https://nilsdecker.com/skaters/).The problem does not occur on mobile.

My hunch is that it’s related to my themes “masonry grid layout” that I’m using on some of the galleries. When looking at it being logged in as admin, I get a little “i” in the top right corner with lots of errors saying “This image is too small for its container. Adjust the image dimensions to 537 x 537px for optimal results.
” or similar for different images.

A second issue is that when loading the homepage https://nilsdecker.com the spacing between the images is no there consistently. Usually the first row or so of images has spacing underneath, but second and third rows are smushed together (pun intended).

    Thank you!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @nilsdecker,

Since Smush replaces your images in the backend there shouldn’t be any effects on the frontend when the images are optimized.
What I do see on the pages is that the Lazy Load in Smush is enabled and this might be the cause here.
If your theme or another plugin already uses Lazy Load it would in most cases conflict with another lazy load functionality running on site.

Could you try going to Smush > Lazy Load, scroll to the bottom of the page and disable it to see if the images are loading properly after that?

    Cheers,
    Predrag

    Hi @wpmudev-support1,

While this did seem to resolve both issues (resizing and removing spacing), after disabling it my site seems to have become unspeakably slow again. It takes 40+ seconds before the homepage has loaded and I’m on a very fast internet connection. Any ideas why might help to resolve that still?

    @nilsdecker,

There is something wrong with your site hosting. Downloading images takes ages. Seems like your host is limiting the bandwidth for your site, or something is just not right. I recommend you contact hosting support and ask what’s up with the download speed from your site.

    Best regards,

    Thanks @vanyukov Anton,

I host with safetynames.com and they’re awesome but I’ll contact their support to see. Usually, they’re lightning fast – might have been the case that my images are simply too large when I start out but the issue only recently started happening.

2 Mb images are not large. I’ve seen some hosts limit bandwidth due to bad upload/download ratios. Or sometimes some security setting can come into play and start filtering the traffic, which results in bad speed. There’s a bunch of reasons why this can be happening. Hopefully, the host will able to resolve this for you.

    Best regards,
    Anton
