We have a very strange issue with Smush failing on many, but not all, images on this site (hosted on WP Engine).

A Smush fails with the error ‘could not find /nas/content/live/displaysigns/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/’. I have tried using the 2016 theme and deactivating all other plugins but the Smush still fails.

The really weird thing is not only did this work perfectly on the staging site but when I tested by deploying the staging site to live it still seemed to work OK. Unfortunately, the staging site has some development stuff on it and lags the live site so using that is not a solution.

I’ve seen posts elsewhere about this problem but have not seen a solution.

    Many thanks…Peter

  • @petermjames,This happens on WP Engine if the images are not actually copied to live site and they just exists on staging. The image works ok in browser because WP Engine has some sort of redirection on which serves images from sandbox, but in order to optimise them, they need to be actually present in live site.

Since smush can’t find them, it gives you the error. Try copying few images and see if it works ok.

    Thanks, Umesh

Thank you Umesh! I had the same issue. Once the site was pushed back to live the images were appearing as normal.
