SMTP ERROR: Failed to connect to server – with Outlook.com

  • I have recently installed the Easy WP SMTP plugin. The email address I use for sending is [email protected].
    But whenever I try to send a test email I get an error:
    SMTP ERROR: Failed to connect to server: (0)SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting

    This error is all I get in the debug log, no more info is mentioned there.

    The settings I have used for the plugin are:
    SMTP host: smtp.office365.com
    Type of encryption: SSL/TLS
    SMTP port: 587
    SMTP authentication: yes
    SMTP username: [email protected]
    SMTP password: my password @outlook.com

    Are my settings wrong? As I got these from internet. I would very much appreciate your advise.

    Please contact outlook support. They should be able to investigate further your account and why you are experiencing this issue.

    Our plugin works like a bridge between your site and your SMTP server.

    Let me know what they say.

    Thanks for your answer. I as afraid this would be the answer. For the last 3 days I have been trying to contact Outlook support but they do not answer my emails and are very hard to reach. But will continue in that direction.

    That is Bluehost. Should I contact them about the issue? Have not tried that yet…

    It would not hurt to reach out to your host about this issue. They might be able to share some light.

    Hi, I had a similar issue and what worked for me was adding tls://smtp.yourprovider.com
    of ssl://smtp.yourprovider.com, depending on your port. This goes on your host input box.
