SMTP cannot verify after email provider change

My client has been using your plugin successfully for years, but has recently switched from a hosting-provided email service to a Microsoft 365 exchange account.
I’ve set up similar emails in your plugin dozens of times with no problem, but for some reason this client’s set up just won’t verify in your plugin – and I’ve checked the credentials over and over, and even tried changing the password in case some of the symbols in it were causing issues.
Any ideas please? In the 365 admin centre under manage email apps, Authenticated SMTP is ticked…
