Smooth-slider fails activation

  • I’ve installed smooth slider (2.3.5) on a fresh wordpress 3.1.3 site. Installation reports success and there are filesin ~/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/smooth-slider
    However smooth-slider does not appear on the list of plug-ins and if I try activating the plug-in immediately after install I get the following error message:

    The plugin does not have a valid header.

    If I install without activating the plug-in does not appear on the list.
