I hate to do this to you guys but I am just trying out your SEO and it will not crawl. There is not much of a reason for me to move away from Yoast (which I did have installed first) if your tools will not work. Perhaps it is something easy to diagnose or a known problem?

Please get back to me as soon as you can as I an trying out several of your tools and am interested in a single solution for many of my site needs but am not going to invest any time in something that doesn’t work (of course.)

  • Hi @mcarver,

Sorry to hear you’re having issues with the scan, can you tell me if you have any firewall plugins on your site and if you can check server logs and see if there’s anything blocking the scan from reaching your site?

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the rapid reply!

Well, I do have securi (it is actually GoDaddy’s firewall.) Can you tell me where I would need to look to confirm? Also, I am trying out WPMU’s own security as well. Any known issues there?

Further, I will likely (because it speeds up the site) be adding CloudFlare as well… please let me know if there is any known issues there as well.

I imagine if any of these are blocking the crawl it would be the same issue for either but perhaps not!

    Hi Matt,

Can you check in your firewall if there’s anything blocking below IP address and try whitelisting it and see if that will allow the scan to continue:
    34.196.51.17

As long as the services you are using are not blocking the incoming requests from SmartCrawl there shouldn’t be any issues.
Defender doesn’t currently have Firewall option (it’s something being looked into) so it will not be blocking requests via Firewall like this.

    Cheers,

I whitelisted it and no change.

    Hello there @mcarver,

hope you’re doing good and don’t mind me chip in here! ??

Are there any access logs that you could check or get your hosting provider to do so?

Additionally, have you tried to install a fresh WP in the same server, only install SmartCrawl and run a crawl? This way you could see if some other plugins or theme is affecting this.

    Warm regards,
    Dimitris

I do not mind anyone chipping in. I have done a full uninstall and reinstall of smartcrawl. One thing I have notice is that the error seems to happen on the smartcrawl front page (dashbaord?) but stats appear on the individual pages. Ideas to that?

    Hello @mcarver ??

On pages you actually see the results of SEO & Readability Analysis that’s happening the time you edit these pages.

Initial error is about SmartCrawl -> SEO Checkup though, which by default is scanning your homepage.

This is also different with the SmartCrawl -> Sitemap -> URL Crawler which crawls all pages and post in order to update the sitemap file.

I have done a full uninstall and reinstall of smartcrawl.

That’s something different than testing in a clean environment to exclude conflicts with other plugins and theme. Would you be able to make such test to ensure this? ??

    Thank you,
    Dimitris

    Hello @mcarver

I’m marking this as resolved due to recent inactivity. Feel free to post back any updates and we can happily re-open it and carry on troubleshooting. ??

    Take care,
    Dimitris
