Slugs and Permalink, Description

Two questions —

There is a slug box when creating galleries, but all photos open using the same permalink: example: https://www.website/portfolio. Is there a way to have each gallery use it’s designated slug – example: https://www.website/trees. From there, is it possible to specify each photo – https://www.website/trees/centralpark

My second question is re gallery description, which there is also a box for, but nothing shows when it’s filled out.
