• I have been finding the import so capable that I almost feel churlish in asking about this one thing.

I want to keep the URLs of my imported pages like this:
    https://www.acme.com/brie-cheese

Such short URLs have been established in Google’s index for about 20 years, and perform well in their categories. Not about to change or break them.

I’ve got plugins going that are supposed to enable short URLs like that.

I do have an evolved content hierarchy in terms of parent pages and categories, which shows in bread crumb trail.

Anyway, after an import, in which I tell say 30 pages what their parent page is, and their category is, I get this for a permalink:

    https://www.acme.com/dairy/cheese/frech-cheeses/brie-cheese

So I have to edit page on each one of them (quick edit won’t do it) and manually edit the permalink slug back down to just:

    https://www.acme.com/brie-cheese

Is there any option in the import that I’m missing that would prevent the long URLs?

I should correct my wording — “permalink” mystery. The import seems to be forcing parent hierarchical permalinks on me, despite settings I’ve set to the contrary elsewhere in WordPress.
