    This plugin is WAY slow.

    I’m currently using it with Elementor so I tried switching to the basic WordPress theme and it still was slow.

    I tried disabling every other plugin but it’s still VERY slow. I keep getting 504 errors when I’m logged in. When I’m not logged in it’s slightly faster but not by much.

    I tried repairing the database tables but it still didn’t help.

    Both the plugin and WordPress install are completely up to date.

    Any thoughts on what can be done to fix this?

    I’m sorry to hear that you ran into issues with this!

    This plugin should not slow the performance of the site, but any new addition to the site could have an impact.?Adding ANY code to a site, whether it’s our plugin or not, can have an impact. The performance of a site is based MORE on the hosting hardware, and the other plugins you may have installed.

    The best practice would be to DEACTIVATE and DELETE any plugins you’re not using at all. And any plugins that aren’t critical to the site should also be removed. Too many plugins can cause issues, as can conflicts. A conflict test may determine if a single plugin is causing speed issues.     Thank you for the quick reply.

    As previously mentioned, we’ve tried deactivating every other plugin. When we reactivate one by one it’s the directory plugin that slows things down every time.

    This is the result with both the elementor theme we’re using AND the2021 built-in WordPress theme.

    We’ve also tried everything in the link you attached.

    We aren’t using any custom PHP or anything like that.

    Any other suggestions would be most welcome. This is the only issue that is keeping us from launching our client’s site at the moment.

    Hey Bobbie,

    We installed the query monitor plugin and it wasn’t all that fruitful.

    Despite the fact that the page often takes upward to two minutes to load the query monitor isn’t showing any queries that are taking that long.

    We’ve allocated a TON of resources to the site and now it eventually loads but as previously mentioned it takes 2+ minutes to do so.

    We added the hummingbird plugin to cache the site but even with that enabled the directory pages are taking 30+ seconds to load.

    Basically, the pages in the directory just seem to lag for 2 minutes then the page suddenly loads. I should add that when we’re logged in the load time is even slower.

    When we disable the business directory plugin everything loads really quickly.

    Do you know of anything else we can try?

    Most of what we’re seeing is some kind of issue on the individual sites, though I’m not sure how successful things have been since I haven’t heard back recently from the other two people reporting.

    One thing to check is the size of your images — very large images will definitely slow down the directory – under 150kb is best. We have recommendations for images sizes here: https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/knowledge-base/appearance-tab/#Image_Size_Recommendations

    The other thing we are asking people to do is download Query Monitor and analyze the top issues they see. So far, we haven’t seen Business Directory Plugin as a big issue there.

    Will you also check if you have the same issue under these conditions?
    – all other plugins deactivated
    – any custom code removed
    – WP 2020 theme active
    – running the current version of Business Directory Plugin?
    – running the current version of WordPress
    – all site, server, and browser caches cleared

    I’ve noticed this while revamping an older site which has used the business directory for a long while. I’ve narrowed it down to category pages where there are a lot of entries and photos. Categories with only 2 or 3 listings load instantly whereas those with more than 6 begin to lag and if I try top level categories where there may be a lot of entries then I give up.

    I will take another look at the photos as I may have loaded some that are significantly larger. I have also just created my own t emulate files so wondering if that is a factor too.

    I only post this to add my observations. Will post separately if I can’t resolve it.

    Thanks – I am having the issue with any category which has more than 1 item. This was all working fine … now slow in every category. Have logged a ticket.

    Spent alot of time yesterday trying to troubleshooting this :-

    1. Swapped Theme from Avada to WP2021
    2. Disabled all plugins accept Avada Core and Wordfence and BD
    3. Regenerated Thumbnails
    4. Update Image Meta Descriptions (some were blank)
    5. Disabled thumbnails on Listings
    6. Switched on settings to help conflicts in BD settings

    Nothing worked …
    Individual listings load fine … but any catgeory that has more than 2 listings takes at least 10 seconds and fill directory of only 15 items takes about 45 seconds.

    Running PHP 7.4 and latest version of BD

    Have installed query monitor and am seeing ove 50 calls to “wp_attachmentm_metadata” for DB which I think is the issue – but I dont know how to solve. Possibly related to a deleted image?
