    Hello
After update to last version while browsing the site, i imediately have observed the site speed have become slower but i did not pay attention, after some time i decided to downgrate and it solved, the site speed was back to normal.
Also while browsing Admin backend going to some link the loading spin in browser but it never goes to where i was going. It feels like empty action and this happens rarely.
Because i m on SG host the updates are forced like some vaccines so not sure what to do, to disable plugins i don’t want because the site was fine with all of them.
P.s. my favicon was fine before i removed it so it is not related in my opinion, the last update is the culprit i m sure of that.
    Thank you for any help!

By and large, 5.4 was a really minimal change from 5.3. Mostly the change was in the editor, which wouldn’t affect site speed in the slightest, really.

So, my first inclination would be to suggest that it’s all in your head. ??

However, it is also possible that some plugin or theme incompatibility was triggered which is causing slowdowns in specific circumstances. We’ve seen that before, but it’s pretty rare. So you might consider looking at what plugins and themes you’re using, and try seeing which ones you can do without. Turning a few of them off and on and reloading might give you an idea is some plugin is causing the majority of the perceived slowdown to your site.

I have exactly the same problem! It takes a lot of time for my site to load. Sometimes I have to reload because it takes too much time. I have disabled all plugin, switched to twenty twenty and nothing changed. I guess I will have to downgrade it too.

    Hi
Not sure but in my case was caused by a plugin and it was related to WP Update, problem was that the plugin was no longer maintained and i could not contact the developer to ask him fix the code.
Anyway i moved from SiteGround GoGeek package to DreamHost VPS the cheapest one and i got same speed at half price plus i even did not install any cache plugin, the only thing on DreamHost you will have to fix the Emails using some plugin because they are not sent.
If to downgrade does not work you may try DreamHost hosting use this link.
