• Hi,

Pingdom and GTmetrix both report my website is slow, with Pingdom giving the following reason which I don’t understand.

The requests for the following URLs don’t fit in a single packet. Reducing the size of these requests could reduce latency.

    data:application/font-woff;charset=utf-8;base64 … fQh9CH0IfQg9CD0IPQg9CPcf7j9K8y+BQLz/AAABVuGyrgAA

Can anyone help me decipher this?

    My website is https://whichinvestmenttrust.com

    Thanks

  • I recommend you try the following tips.

    • Compress all the images on your website. A plugin like EWWW Image Optimizer is a good place to start.
    • Remove unnecessary plugins from your website. Activated plugins can sometimes cause some pages to be slower.
    • Install a cache plugin. WP Super Cache, W3 Total Cache, or WP Fastest Cache are all half decent cache plugins that I would recommend. If you set it up properly this should help your page speed.
    • Lastly, look into your hosting package if everything else isn’t working. A cheap shared hosting package can sometimes provide really slow page loads.

You’re supplying fonts — and those tend to be large. So, you can make scoring sites happy or have a nice looking site. ?? I’d go for the latter. Don’t obsess over page speed scores. Look at how the page loads.

With respect to caching, my current approach is to use autoptimize and wp super cache. Your site is slow to get started — it shows a big TTFB that could be helped with caching (and perhaps some server component optimization).

Thank you @kidsguide and @sterndata, I am examining or have adopted some of your suggestions already.

I have upgraded my Siteground package to Cloud on a dedicated server.

EWWW Image Optimizer is running now. I’ll look at Caching options next.

Many thanks to you both for your kind assistance.
