    Hi,

Could plugins like an SEO plugin effect the load time of the blog? My site just takes forever to load sometimes.

Site ain’t big, nor receives tremendous amounts of traffic – I had complex plugins that do automatic backups or complex stuff… but I removed them all – the only complex one left is SEO by Yoast.

Any idea what could make the site load slow or stop loading at times. When I changed permalink structure I also got the error: Couldn’t establish connection with database.

SEO by Yoast is a really well maintained plugin, you don’t need to worry about that one.

what themes and other plugins have you got on your site?

if you’ve got access to the server, try to use phpmyadmin to run a check and repair on the database.

    .html on PAGES
    Akismet
    Awesome Surveys
    Contact Form
    Read Offline
    Simple Pull Quote
    Simple Share Buttons Adder
    ThirstyAffiliates
    TinyMCE Advanced
    Widget Logic
    WordPress SEO

The contact us form isn’t being spammed, neither the survey.

I did have other plugins I stopped like ithemes security and recently a plugin that translates blog in many languages.

    Thanks!

    – Read Offline is nearly 2 years without an update so that “may” be playing a part.

does the site load slow only on your computer/internet connection or is is the same on other user’s machines?

    Hi redhalls,

I’m Josh, the creator of ThirstyAffiliates (thats how I found this post).

Couldn’t establish connection errors usually indicate a server issue, it could be as simple as having PHP and MySQL restarted. Also check if both of these can be upgraded to newer versions.

Plugins generally don’t cause database connection issues, but it could also be worth switching back to the TwentyTwelve theme (or one of the other core themes) and disable all your plugins to see if the connectivity issues still remain. If they do it’s a host issue.

    Best of luck!

    Cheers,
    Josh

If you have shared hosting, how many other sites are sharing your webserver?
