• This is my first time posting, so apologies if this is not in the right place.

I’m self-taught in web design and have a feeling I’ve done something wrong since my site takes 10+ seconds to load! I’ve been running tons of speed tests and following suggestions for fixes. My scores improve e.g. on GTMetrix, but my site is still painfully slow. I use InMotion as a host. My time to first byte is very slow, but I’ve been told it is not a server issue. I’m at a bit of a loss. What good is a website that takes so long to load?

    Suggestions?

I don’t know much about coding and rely on plugins to fix my problems… so patient, thorough explanations are appreciated!

    Thanks!

  • I can see the same thing, but for me it took a bit over 16 seconds of “waiting” time before the page was even sent.

    There’s two possibilities for this.

    1. Your sites code is vad. Very bad. If that’s it, then it’s going to be extremely hard to fix as you’ll need to pretty much dig through it line-by-line to find out where the problem(s) are.
    2. The server doesn’t work well for first-time pages that aren’t cached. If that’s the case it’s really up to moving to a server that can. To be honest I’m nto sure that’s going to be the issue here, but it’s very difficult to tell.

The first thing to do is look at the plugins that your site uses and check to see if each one of them is needed, or if it can be deactivated or removed without affecting the site. After that, it’s moving on to some pretyt hard-core code review.

    Hello,
I have checked your site by GTmetrix- https://gtmetrix.com/reports/sacredartscene.com/wcSZGMPf

Your site too fast and there is no problem!

It is right, sometimes GTmetrix results not help from your side. I have visited your site and that is very slow. Really painful.

I think this is the DATA CENTER issue. You are from Europe and website hosted in USA that’s why you face this issue.

For example, I am from Bangladesh so, my nearest DC is India or Singapore.

Host your site in the same region where you live and make sure where your audience.

Thanks for the useful info here.

Thank you all for looking at my site. @catacaustic, do you have any guesses as to why my code is so bad? Theme? Plugin issue? The only coding I’ve done is CSS customizations, maybe that?

There’s no way for me or anyone else to tell what the problem is. That sort of investigation really needs to be done on the sever, and no one here has access to that (and don’t give anyone here access… not a good idea). If you have a IT support company that you trust you could ask them, or your hosting company may be able to investigate more with some fees if that’s a service that they offer.

You page load time appears to be really good now (1.1s on the latest GTmetrix report I ran), did you resolve the issue?

You have done a great job optimizing your site’s performance. The only thing I would suggest is to use jpeg images instead of png whenever possible. But your the size of your images is very small so it’s not something you have to worry about at the moment.
