Slow posts/pages/menus Update/Publish

  • Hello,

    Publishing and updating pages or posts takes a very long time (approx. 45 seconds with ‘loading wheel’ once clicked on the Publish/Update button).
    The same problem occurs when editing Menus.
    It used to be much faster and suddenly became much slower.

    The rest of the website is fast.
    All the Update Services are removed from the Settings > Writing.

    Do you have any idea what could cause that?

  • I just started having the same problem about 2 days too. I’m searching for a reason. I have read other posts in my search so far that W3 Total Cache could be caching pages, but that has to do with once the page is published and it takes a while for the change to appear on the website.

    My problem is like yours… I go to edit a page or post, hit the Publish/Update button and it takes about 90 seconds or more before it saves the page. It almost locks up, meaning you cant even click another link in the admin area.

    Ok… I just figured out my problem. It was one of my plugins. I basically went in and disabled most of my plugins and the problem went away!

    So I started turning them on a few at a time until I finally found the culprit. You might try doing the same thing.

    Yes, even emptying the W3 Total Cache doesn’t help.

    Which plugin was the culprit for you?

    I got the same problem.
    Any progress on this topic?

    No, sorry. I haven’t tried yet to disable the plug-ins to find which causes trouble so for now we still go with the slow publish process.

    It sure has to do with something that hooks on the post action.
    I’m thinking of the Yoast sitemap functionality.

    I tried deactivating the Yoast breadcrumbs plug-in but it doesn’t improve the speed: still very long publish/edit process.

    Does the All in One SEO Pack generates a sitemap?
    If yes, try to deactivate that one.
