• I happen to check my error logs and found a folder named mysql_slow_queries and found daily a log was generated for the slow mysql queries.

I have 4 wordpress (WP2.2.3) blogs running under my hosting account (on Hostmonster). They do not have much traffic. Usually 500 visitors per day in all (total for 4 blogs) with 2000 page views per day (total for 4).

WordPress seems to be consuming lots of CPU resources as well. My account gets frequently suspended due to excessive CPU usage.

Is any one facing similar problem ?
Is there any way to improve the speed of mysql queries and reduce CPU load ?

  • Not that I have an answer, but it may help others to know the list of plugins activated, OS version, PHP version, webserver version.

    Hello –

I have a very similar problem: 3 WP installations on one VPS with a company called LiquidWeb (good hosting co.), ALL running slow – and this is the third or fourth time it has happened in the last couple of weeks. Hosting Tech. noticed alot of “database tables open” and did some tweaking to see that they close quicker. I am trying caching too, but it does not seem to help.

Per moderators message here is a config. list…

PLUGINS ACTIVATED: Configurable Tag Cloud, Adsense Manager, Backup WordPress, EasyTube, Enforce WWW, Dagon Design Form Mailer, Google Analytics, Google Sitemap, FeedBurner FeedSmith, In Series, NextGEN Gallery, No Self Pings, PageLink Manager, Optimize Database, Role Manager, Search Everthing, Sociable, Tiny MCE Advanced, WP-Cache

    • OS VERSION: Linux (Kernel version 2.4.26-vs1.27)
    • PHP VERSION: 4.4.7
    • WEBSERVER VERSION: Apache version – 1.3.34 (Unix)
    • MySQL version 4.1.22-standard

Hope this helps. Thanks for the troubleshooting.

    Yours, Scott

    Hi –

UPDATE: Today, I went through the same thing again, and found that my hosting tech. saw an Apache process running the server at 50% of capacity (too high), or more. This continued after restarting Apache. On further investigation the hosting techs. concluded that it was not an Apache problem, but rather was something “likely” caused by a WordPress process. They recommended that I shut down some plugins. I did. These are the ones I deactivated:
enforceWWW, EasyTube, SearchEverything (since these were recently activated).

Everthing is running fine for now. I will keep you all posted here.

QUESTION: I know this is a volunteer army to help each other, but please let us know here a) how the support process works, and b) if anyone is actually looking into the problems reported on this thread.

    Thanks, Scott
